The mission of this working group is to articulate and shape issues of resilience and sustainability on the continent of Africa as they may be implemented as reforms of current policies, as well as contemplate and make recommendations for more extensive critiques and proposals for national, provincial, and local systems transformation, as may be necessary or desirable beyond the scope of traditional reforms being undertaken by the current African national governments and local government proposals in Africa.

UNICEF: 12.7 million children in Africa missed vaccinations A new report from UNICEF says nearly 13 million children missed one or more vaccinations in Africa between 2019 and 2021 because of the disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The situation has left the continent vulnerable to even more outbreaks of disease and facing a “child survival crisis." The report released Thursday confirms there was a global “backslide” in childhood immunization over those three years. That's the worst regression for childhood vaccinations in 30 years. Africa has the highest number of unvaccinated and under-vaccinated children.

Promising new malaria vaccine for kids approved in Ghana Ghana became the first country to approve a new malaria vaccine for young children that may offer better protection against the disease that kills hundreds of thousands every year. Preliminary results from early testing of the new vaccine, developed at the University of Oxford, have suggested the vaccine is far more effective than the only malaria vaccine now authorized for use by the World Health Organization.
