Earlier today WHO published its March 20 Ebola data and statistics, with numbers as of March 17 for Liberia and March 18 for Guinea and Sierra Leone....

Two problems: 1) The new cases in the three countries add up to 639, but the world total is almost 200 cases higher. I have no idea why. 2) BBC News says there hadn't been a new case in Liberia for 20 days—that is, since before March 1—yet WHO reports 126 new Liberian cases.

I know that some suspected cases are counted as Ebola and then discounted, and other non-Ebola cases are found to have been Ebola after all. I can understand how 166 Liberians may have died this month of Ebola contracted in January or February.

But I can't understand how Liberia could call itself almost Ebola-free while WHO is reporting 126 new Liberian cases.
