95% Safe Campaign
Welcome! The mission of the RAC Aging Well Center of Excellence’s is to provide thousands of communities across the United States with essential information and resources to improve the health and quality of life for millions of older adults.
Our first project is the 95% Safe Campaign. Our shared goal is that 95% of all older adults in every community across the nation will be vaccinated for COVID-19 by the end of 2021.
Why the 95% Safe Campaign?
- Because we love our parents and grandparents, and we don’t want them to be hospitalized or die from COVID-19. As of early May 2021, more than 450,000 older adults age 65+ have died from COVID-19 and at least 787,000 have been hospitalized.
- More than 8.6 million older adults are not vaccinated and remain at high risk of getting hospitalized or dying from COVID-19 . Although 42 million (83% of all adults age 65+) have been vaccinated, vaccine uptake among older adults has almost leveled off. In April, more than 7,800 older adults died from COVID-19 and an estimated 32,000 were hospitalized.
- Getting vaccinated is clearly the best way to protect older adults from getting COVID and to reduce avoidable hospitalizations and deaths. It is very rare for a person who has been fully vaccinated to have a severe case of COVID-19 that requires hospitalization or causes them to die.
- Big goals (that are clear, compelling and measurable) are key to fostering to public and private collaboration at the national, state and community levels. Please join us!
