The Global Health Policy course is an intensive two-day course covering the fundamentals of global health policy design, negotiation and implementation. The course focuses on the practical, with instructors working directly with the participants on the issues relevant to their responsibilities in government, professional associations, and the private sector. 

Topics to be covered include:

• Essential facts on health systems and global health challenges
• Overview of key ongoing or recently completed international negotiations on the global health agenda
• Canada’s global health priorities and constructing a coherent health strategy
• Case studies: Muskoka Initiative on maternal, newborn and child health, UN High-Level Meeting on non-communicable diseases, International Health Regulations, Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework.

This course will help government officials and others who are relatively new to global health to put the complex web of issues facing Canada into context. For those with more experience, this is an ideal opportunity to get beyond the basics and gain important insight into how your organization's interests fit into the bigger picture. Based on several years' experience providing training to federal government departments in Canada and around the world, this course distills key issues and approaches into an intensive two-day session. Because of the small class size, participants will have a greater opportunity to explore their interests and concerns through direct dialogue with our global health policy experts.
