INJECTION 7: IDP/REFUGEE FOOD RIOTS (EVENT+25 WEEKS)
- By week ten, 70% of the former rice producing land is cleared, prepared, and sown with rice. Generally, from planting to household kitchen is 14 weeks. Late in the growing cycle it becomes obvious that the harvest will be minimal.
- The influx of Cambodian refugees has placed regional pressure on food producers already faced with cleaning up after the typhoon – shortages of staples are causing riots in the IDP/Refugee camps
- The storm has taxed strategic stores of rice severely. However, Vietnam has pre-negotiated with other countries to help share their food stores.
- Food riots have broken out on Cambodia-Thailand border.
