This mission of this Working Group is to explore whether the the U.S. currently has a viable Safety Net to help Americans cope with the impacts of severe economic downturn and global changes.

There are now immediate concerns of survival for millions of Americans. The safety is a morass of red tape. Are Americans hit hardest by the current downturn finding the help they need?

What if the rosier pictures of quick recovery do not materialize? Will all Americans have access to shelter, clean water, food, energy, communication, transportation, and occupation, if the downturn deepens, or is protracted? What is the Obama Administration doing to face this scenario? What are families doing themselves to prepare?
