WHO members agree on text for a legally binding pandemic agreement

Members of the World Health Organization (WHO) have agreed the text of a legally binding treaty designed to better tackle future pandemics.

The pact is meant to avoid the disorganisation and competition for resources seen during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Key elements include the rapid sharing of data about new diseases, to ensure scientists and pharmaceutical companies can work more quickly to develop treatments and vaccines.

WHO seeks $1.5 billion for global health emergencies

GENEVA, Jan 16 (Reuters) - The World Health Organization launched its annual appeal for funding to respond to health emergencies on Thursday, just days before the inauguration of Donald Trump as president of the United States, the health agency's biggest donor, puts a question mark over its finances longer-term.
