Renewable energy grew rapidly in 2023, but must grow faster to meet climate change target -- IEA

The world’s renewable energy grew at its fastest rate in the past 25 years in 2023, the International Energy Agency reported Thursday in its first assessment since nations agreed in December on ambitious new targets to slow dangerous climate change.

  • As the number of climate disasters increase, more people are also being forced to flee their homes, especially in Asia.
  • A record 32.6 million internal displacements were associated with disasters in 2022 — more than the 28.3 million displaced by conflict and violence that same year.
  • Four of the top five countries with the highest number of new internal displacements due to disasters in 2022 were in Asia.
  • As the number of climate disasters increase, more people are being forced to flee their homes, especially in Asia.
